Summary

Molly Gray is not like everyone else。 She struggles with social skills and misreads the intentions of others。 Her gran used to interpret the world for her, codifying it into simple rules that Molly could live by。

Since Gran died a few months ago, twenty-five-year-old Molly has been navigating life's complexities all by herself。 No matter--she throws herself with gusto into her work as a hotel maid。 Her unique character, along with her obsessive love of cleaning and proper etiquette, make her an ideal fit for the job。 She delights in donning her crisp uniform each morning, stocking her cart with miniature soaps and bottles, and returning guest rooms at the Regency Grand Hotel to a state of perfection。

But Molly's orderly life is upended the day she enters the suite of the infamous and wealthy Charles Black, only to find it in a state of disarray and Mr。 Black himself dead in his bed。 Before she knows what's happening, Molly's unusual demeanor has the police targeting her as their lead suspect。 She quickly finds herself caught in a web of deception, one she has no idea how to untangle。 Fortunately for Molly, friends she never knew she had unite with her in a search for clues to what really happened to Mr。 Black--but will they be able to find the real killer before it's too late?

A Clue-like, locked-room mystery and a heartwarming journey of the spirit, The Maid explores what it means to be the same as everyone else and yet entirely different--and reveals that all mysteries can be solved through connection to the human heart。

Wow, just wowI read a lot but don't often review the books when I finish reading them。 I had to review this one though, for many reasons。 I loved this book from the beginning to the end。 I couldn't put it down。 My congratulations to Ms。 Prose。 You knocked it out of the park with your first book。 Interesting, well developed characters get me every time and this book is full of great characters。 I won't reveal the end, but I never saw it coming。 Not knowing, in advance, "who done it" makes this bo Wow, just wowI read a lot but don't often review the books when I finish reading them。 I had to review this one though, for many reasons。 I loved this book from the beginning to the end。 I couldn't put it down。 My congratulations to Ms。 Prose。 You knocked it out of the park with your first book。 Interesting, well developed characters get me every time and this book is full of great characters。 I won't reveal the end, but I never saw it coming。 Not knowing, in advance, "who done it" makes this book a first rate murder mystery, in my opinion。 It's beyond clever。 Just read it, you won't regret it! 。。。more

I really enjoyed this book。 It got me out of a reading slump that I thought would never end lol。 One of my favorite aspects of this story is the way that Prose describes the way that some neurotypical people view/treat neurodivergent people。 This was written in a realistic, honest way which I appreciate。 I also love Molly。 Her admiration for simplicity and cleanliness was refreshing to read about。 I heard that this book is character driven and that is definitely the case! Without giving spoilers… this book was one of the first “mystery” books I’ve given a real chance。 Though I had it figured out from the beginning that seemingly added to the charm。 All in all, I would say it was a solid read。 Definitely worth it if you’re dipping your toes into a new genre。

So goooood。 Great book to start off the year!

This is one of the best books I've ever read。 I listened to it on audiobook and have recommended it to almost everyone I have come in contact with。 The narrator was terrific。 She truly captured the spirit of the characters and "MADE" the book!! The Maid is a well written mystery。 The story follows Molly the maid as she navigates life on her own without her grandmother。 In addition to the lessons her grandmother has taught her, Molly learns some lessons of her own, as she finds herself in the cross hairs of a dangerous situation。 What makes the main character so unique is how she views the world and how literal she perceives everything。 While the novel has you tying to figure out what will happen next, it also makes you root for Molly a The Maid is a well written mystery。 The story follows Molly the maid as she navigates life on her own without her grandmother。 In addition to the lessons her grandmother has taught her, Molly learns some lessons of her own, as she finds herself in the cross hairs of a dangerous situation。 What makes the main character so unique is how she views the world and how literal she perceives everything。 While the novel has you tying to figure out what will happen next, it also makes you root for Molly and hope she comes out on top。 I would recommend to anyone who loves a good mystery and wants to try something new。Thank you NetGalley for the ARC。 。。。more

Great whodunnit with an interesting protagonist。

A potential 5 star read but here are some reasons I reduced one star:1。 It gets boring towards the end of the book。 Why does it always happen that (view spoiler)[the main character falls in with someone and everything just works out for them, just like that? This happens to be too convenient for a "happy" ending。 In my opinion, Molly and Juan could've stayed friends and the plot would've stayed pretty much the same。 (hide spoiler)]2。 Sometimes I paused while reading and wondered, "Is Molly this A potential 5 star read but here are some reasons I reduced one star:1。 It gets boring towards the end of the book。 Why does it always happen that (view spoiler)[the main character falls in with someone and everything just works out for them, just like that? She's clearly so dumb at times that I wanted to swear at her。 She behaves inappropriately in so many situations。 Considering the fact that she's socially awkward, I guess I can't blame her either。3。 I had my suspicion on (view spoiler)[the first Mrs。 Black or/and her daughter for a long time。 I mean, it really seemed to fit the storyline—the first wife seeking revenge out of the husband, who also happens to be a total douchebag (thanks for dying!)。 (hide spoiler)] So, it became predictable in a way。4。 This is related to point 2 but I wanted to make a separate point about it because I've so much to say。 (view spoiler)[RODNEY。 I hate that man。 How could Molly not see that she was making a fool of herself by seeing him when he clearly misses all her jokes, doesn't call or text her, and idk what not! He's not only a bad egg but one of the worst ones too。 And my goodness, what on earth was that first kiss? I wanted to puke。 Splotch of red sauce on his collar? Limp basil stuck between his teeth? Eww。 Such a turn off。 (hide spoiler)]Enough of bad words, it was fun to read and analyze the characters。 As much as I find Molly stupid, I love how she respects her own profession and devotes herself to it。Something else occurred to me while reading—(view spoiler)[at some point I had a theory that Mr。 Preston was somehow involved in Mr。 Black's death and that's why he came forward to pull Molly out of the mess out of guilt and of course, because he adored her。 All of it sounded too good to be true。 (hide spoiler)]In conclusion, The Maid by Nita Prose is definitely worth a read。 It has a couple of shocking revelations in the last quarter of the book。 Have a great reading journey! 。。。more

This book was a disappointment, I thought I would like it more。 It took me an entire month to read because I just didn’t like it and kept picking up other books instead。 I never fully got attached to or cared about the characters at all, could be my issue from reading it so slowly… but I definitely could have just never finished this one and not cared at all。

I loved this cozy mystery, and learning the layers of Molly's character as the story unfolded。 Molly is the titular maid, and she discovers a man "very dead in his bed" at the fancy hotel where Molly cleans。 Although never explicitly named, Molly seems to be neurodiverse。 Her unusual take on the happenings in the hotel enrich the plot, and made this a really refreshing and delightful read! Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book! I thoroughly enjoyed this book and the different perspective of the main character。 As a reader, you could see how the main character’s literal speaking habits were going to trip her up, and they did。 The grace she had in acknowledging how this alters people’s perception of her was lovely。 There’s a few surprises in her behavior that the book club notes call “Robin Hood” beliefs that are more complex than that phrasing, and they give added depth to the book。 I enjoyed it, and her joy and fulfill I thoroughly enjoyed this book and the different perspective of the main character。 As a reader, you could see how the main character’s literal speaking habits were going to trip her up, and they did。 The grace she had in acknowledging how this alters people’s perception of her was lovely。 There’s a few surprises in her behavior that the book club notes call “Robin Hood” beliefs that are more complex than that phrasing, and they give added depth to the book。 I enjoyed it, and her joy and fulfillment in clean spaces almost made me want to adhere to her cleaning schedule。 I’ll remember this read more because of the sheer joy the main character had in being the best maid she could be。 。。。more

This book was a cute/light murder mystery which was refreshing。 That being said, the plot was pretty slow and I found myself getting bored。 I also felt like Molly’s character was super unbelievable。 At points she is so oblivious she’s like a child (I find it hard to believe any functioning adult could be so clueless) and then other times she’s astute and making seemingly out of character decisions。

Susan Blexrud

I LOVED this book! I was cheering for Molly from the first page。 The author made her so endearing and heroic。 This book had it all。。。heartache, comedy, redemption。

I wanted to love it so badly, there was one plot twist I didn’t expect but even that was irrelevant to the story ultimately。 Probably why it took me so long to read。

Creeker868

It was just ok。 First half was a slog。 Got more interesting once Molly was arrested and more interaction with supporting characters。 Final ending felt contrived and not very believable when considering Molly’s character。

4。5⭐️ - I thoroughly enjoyed this book。 It was fun, quirky, and a real whodunnit! If you can't figure out that there is something "different" about Molly without having to have it spelled out for you then perhaps。。。 well, I'll leave it at that。 As Gran would say: If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all。 🤐 😊 I think the way the book is written is brilliant。 It left it up to the reader to come to their own conclusion and added to the quirky vibe of the book in general。 I thought the author did a fantastic job with Molly's perspective and how she saw things, how she interpreted things, etc。 To say that people in the book would have known she was neurodivergent and therefore would have treated her better instead of laughing at her, bullying her, or manipulating her, are in la-la land。 What world are YOU living in? lol Seriously, people get so offended by everything。 🙄 Who knew that so many 'psychologists' and superior 'writers' would read this book and leave so many enlightening comments for Nita Prose?! Highly recommend this book! 。。。more

The book very accurately describes a young woman Molly the Maid - highly functional in Autistic Spectrum。 For such a person to be alone, without any support, is scary, not to mention facing a murder。 It is written from a perspective of Molly, so it is very detail-oriented, boring in some places, very emotional in others, but I guess it is justified as that's how she processes information。 As it would be in real life, Molly learns from her experiences, there is a good laugh here and there。The plo The book very accurately describes a young woman Molly the Maid - highly functional in Autistic Spectrum。 For such a person to be alone, without any support, is scary, not to mention facing a murder。 It is written from a perspective of Molly, so it is very detail-oriented, boring in some places, very emotional in others, but I guess it is justified as that's how she processes information。 As it would be in real life, Molly learns from her experiences, there is a good laugh here and there。The plot is a little too dramatic, some points fall through, but overall not a bad book。 。。。more

Starting the new year strong。 Excellent story。 Molly is a great character。 A few surprises, in somewhat conventional crime storyline。 Don’t assume。

Entertaining, quick read。 The main character is unique and takes some patience。

This book was considerably hyped and it is a cute story of a neuro atypical character who overcomes adversity。 I found the simplicity of the story a bit annoying。

Utterly disappointed with this book, not a good way to start my 2023 reading journey。 The Maid is about Molly, Molly the Maid。 She works as a cleaner in Regency Grand hotel and got entangled in a murder mystery at the hotel。The first half of the book is tedious to read through, this is supposed to be a murder mystery but instead it’s very obvious from the beginning what’s about to happen and I have to force myself to read through the book for the revelation I’ve already known! The second half is also super unrealistic, it’s like Molly suddenly turned completely into another person, from the idiot to a genius in a turn of a page。Another problem I have with this book is the main character, Molly。 She’s unbearable (maybe that’s what the author is trying to convey but I’m sorry I really can’t)。 She kept describing her Gran’s actions and words it’s so annoying! Gran this Gran that Gran Gran Gran ugh… Also, the book make it seems like everyone else think that Molly is just a weirdo and did not treat her properly because of it, when it’s so obvious that she has a mental condition, and with this knowledge, if everyone realises that she has the condition (which they obviously would) they would certainly treat her better and will be more understandable and none of the story would have happened!!Hot take from me, I hate this book。 👋 。。。more
